John Wallace Dempsey, Jr. (1944-2026)
John Wallace Dempsey, Jr, aged 82, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on February 9, 1944, in Chester, Pennsylvania, John’s life was a testament to love, family, and wisdom. Dad’s infectious laughter and unending humor brought joy to everyone around him.
John was born and raised in Chester, Pennsylvania, son of John Wallace Dempsey, Sr. and Ethel (Cheety) Dempsey. He was a graduate of Chester High School, Chester, Pennsylvania.
A loving husband to Barbara (Opps) Dempsey, John was a pillar of strength and support for his family. After retiring from Crozer Chester Medical Center, he and his wife made the move to Columbus, Georgia, then on to Santa Rosa Beach, Florida for warmer weather. He was a devoted father and grandfather, always there to offer guidance, love and a hearty laugh.
John had many passions in life, including football, hockey, and fishing, which he enjoyed sharing with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara (Opps)Dempsey; his children, Coleen Fernandes (Glenn), Patrick Dempsey (Beth), and Bobbi Wheeler (Craig); his grandchildren, Sean Fernandes, Ryan Fernandes (Cierra), Kayla Dempsey, Nicholas Wheeler, Riley Dempsey, and Connor Wheeler; and his great-grandchildren, Logan Fernandes, and William (Liam) Fernandes. He is also survived by his sister, Carol (Dempsey) Todd of Rising Sun, Maryland, as well as many cousins.
