Jimmie Lee Rudolph (Madear): A Heart That Held Us All
Jimmie Lee Rudolph, affectionately known as “Madear”, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2025, at the age of 91, surrounded by the family she so deeply cherished. Born on March 23, 1934 to parents, Johnnie and Fannie Mae Massey, Jimmie’s life began in Greenville, Alabama, where her story of love, faith and devotion first took root.
There, she met and married the love of her life, Levon Rudolph, with whom she built a beautiful and vibrant family. Together, they raised nine children: Albert, Cynthia, Ricky, Linda, Donnie Ray, Matilda, Craig, Francine and Johnnie. Levon preceded her in death on October 17, 1990, but the legacy they created together only grew stronger with time.
Miss Jimmie was more than a mother. She was the heart of her family and a source of strength for all who knew her. Her home at 52 W. Audrey was more than a place. It was a refuge, a warm gathering space and a true sanctuary. Whether family by blood or bond, all were welcome at Madear’s table, and no one left without a full plate and a fuller heart.
She helped raise not only her own children, but many of her grandchildren and even those who simply found themselves in need of love and guidance. She was the proud grandmother of thirty, and her legacy of love continued to grow with numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Each generation stands as a living testament to her boundless care, compassion and unwavering devotion. She is also survived by her two sisters, Cora Allen and Leola Massey.
To know Madear was to know selfless love. She led not through loud words but through quiet example, offering compassion, patience and strength that held her family together through every storm. Her legacy is stitched into the very fabric of our lives, into every hug, every Sunday dinner, every story passed down through the generations.
Madear was and forever will be the heart of our family. Though she has departed this world, the warmth she gave us continues to live in each of us, boundless, steady and full of grace.
