Sweet, strong, and beautiful are just a few words to describe the most wonderful Jean Carol Cunningham. After a brief illness and her family by her side, Jean passed away peacefully in Niceville, Florida on May 19, 2025.
It was January 23 of 1937 when Jessica (Freeman) Dendy and Burley "Bubba” Dendy were blessed with Bubba’s future first mate and their only child in Homestead, Florida.
After high school graduation, Jean put that friendly voice into public service while working several years as a telephone operator until she married John A. Cunningham, II on September 6, 1962. Jean and Jack were soon blessed with their three children David, Tara, and Marc.
Jean’s voice was called back into service in 1979 when the Community Bank of Homestead selected her as their telephone operator. Her wonderful demeanor and love for people landed her a promotion to a much-coveted position in their marketing department.
Standing up to tragedy following the passing of her beloved son (David ‘99), and determined to carry-on her maternal love, Jean moved to Niceville, Florida to be close to her daughter and son, Marc.
Independent Jean continued to drive her car as long as her vision would hold up. She definitely knew her way around the kitchen and proudly continued to live happy and independent life in Niceville.
Jean was a happy lady, always smiling and never met a stranger. Her love of God and all his creatures kept her motivated to regularly attended Choctaw Methodist Church, where she could sing her heart out with her friends. Her hobbies included gardening, listening to music, singing, and friends, family and food!
This lovely human-being leaves behind her son, Marc; daughter, Tara; son-in-law, Joe DeCarlis; grandsons, Ryan and Casey; Casey’s wife, Alyssa; and great grandson, David L DeCarlis.
She will, again in heaven, see her beloved son, David; loving parents; husband, Jack “who always made me laugh”; best friend, Carolyn; and all her dogs, whom she loved so much.
