Janet E. Foley was born February 18, 1940 in Chelmsford, Essex England to George Ernest and Marjorie Gladys Beard. Our beautiful English rose passed away on January 23, 2023 in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
Janet was born during World War II and experienced both the joys and beauty of the English countryside and the destructiveness of the bombings of the German Blitz resulting in air raid shelter stays and food rationing. She lived a vividly, colorful life filled with memories of listening to the wireless, sixpenny cinema, dancing, and picking wildflowers in the fields with her two beloved sisters.
Leaving England at 18, Janet began a new chapter in her life as a wife and mother in the United States in 1958. As a military spouse, she set up homes in locations within the US and abroad. They loved every place they lived and met many friends along the way.
In 1976, Janet married Thomas Foley and continued to be a supportive military spouse. They shared a love for British life, and after retirement they took many trips back to the United Kingdom, often RVing along the River Ouse during summers; spending time with family and friends while enjoying the English countryside. Among her passions were gardening, reading, and animals of all kinds.
Janet is survived by her daughter, Tina Louise Powell and son-in-Law, Michael Verner Powell; grandchildren, Christopher A. Powell and wife, Stephanie L. Powell, Ashley E. Calhoun and husband, Jonathan A. Calhoun, Michael D. Mashburn and wife, Tiffany Mashburn, Hollie C. Giles and husband, Devon Giles; great grandchildren, Gabrielle, Isabelle, and Christopher Powell Jr, Decklen and Darby Calhoun, Landon and Audrie Giles, Olivia, Abigail and Mia Mashburn; and father of her children, Julian Tyboroski USAF Ret.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Colonel Thomas J Foley, USAF Ret; her daughter, Lisa Marie Trevino; and sisters, Peggy Earley Bugg and Doreen Beard Giddings.
A special thank you to the staff of Westwood Skilled Nursing, where Janet resided for the last few years. She loved her time there and was treated like family by the staff and fellow residents, where she was fondly referred to as “my queen”.
Janet will be interred with her husband, Thomas, at Barrancas National Cemetery during a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to Emerald Coast Hospice at 1301 Eglin Parkway D in Shalimar, Florida 32579 or Alaqua Animal Refuge, 155 Dugas Way, Freeport, Florida 32439.
