Jane J. Hunter, age 88, of Destin, Florida passed away peacefully on Wednesday March 12 at her home, she was a loving wife, mother and sister. She was born on November 28, 1936, in Eunice, Louisiana to Armand Johnson and Bernice Durand. She was a graduate of St. Charles Academy in Lake Charles, Louisiana and she also attended Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. She was a proud military wife traveling with her husband Charlie on his different assignments all over the world. She worked as a telephone operator at Yokota AFB, Japan and in Data Automation at England AFB in Alexandria Louisiana.
She loved attending Mass and was a daily communicant at Corpus Christi Church in Destin Florida, and she also loved praying the Rosary. Janie loved going for rides in the car with Charlie as her driver, they were always on the go. They didn’t miss a Tuesday at Chick-fil-a for their chicken nuggets, and never missed an LSU game (Geaux tigers!). Janie was full of spunk and charisma, and when she had an opinion she let you know it. She was strong and the matriarch of the family.
She is survived by her spouse Charles Bufford Hunter of Destin, and four children, Charles Hunter (Norma) of Frisco Texas, James Hunter (Lindsay) of Peachtree City Georgia , Renee Taylor (John) of San Antonio Texas and Deborah Duffey (Michael) of Santa Rosa Beach Florida, nine grandchildren Lauren Hunter, Alison Eikenberry (Justin), James Hunter, Laura Steiner (Louis), Brent Taylor (Morgan), Sean Duffey (Lindsay), Kayla Duffey, Megan Duffey and Erin Menchen (Jordan), and five great grandchildren, Mark, Clara, John, Ella, and Sofia, along with many other family members and friends.
The Visitation will be held on Sunday March 16 from 3-5 pm at Davis-Watkin Funeral Home in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida. The Funeral will be held on Monday March 17 at 11 am at Corpus Christi Church in Destin, Florida. The burial will take place at Barrancas National Cemetery at 10 am on Wednesday March 19.
