James Tolbert, Jr. Obituary

James Tolbert Jr., 73, a resident of Ponce de Leon, Florida passed away Sunday, September 27, 2020 after a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer caused by Agent Orange exposure during his service in Vietnam. James was born January 25, 1947 in DeFuniak Springs, Florida to James and Narvel Mosley Tolbert.

The impact James had on those close to him is immeasurable. He will forever be remembered by family and friends as a legend in his time. One of the most memorable facets of his persona was his lively storytelling, ranging from Vietnam war stories, to truck-driving tales, and everything in between. His laughter was contagious, his path was straight, so that he could pave the way for his loved ones.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Beverly Russell.

James is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Joyce Tolbert; one son, Lamont Blackmon; three daughters, Jamie Tolbert, Mendy Royals and husband Asa, and Taura Tolbert Peagler and husband Maurice; nine grandchildren, Amante’, Randi, Shannon, Cameron, Knoxx, Donte’, Harley, Stonie, and Ocean; one brother, Ronald Tolbert and wife Sherry; and numerous nieces and nephews.
