Irma Sherman Obituary

 

Irma Sherman, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, passed peacefully in her sleep at the age of 74 on the evening of September 22, 2020, with family at her side. Irma Sherman was born Irma Yolanda Roble-Aleman in Talara, Peru on October 7, 1945.  She married George M. Sherman, Jr.  in 1969.

After living in various places around the world, the couple retired in DeFuniak Springs, Florida to be close to family and friends.  The couple remained together until 2013 when George passed after 44 shared years of marriage.  Irma remained in the couple’s home and continued to be an active member of the DeFuniak Springs community.  Irma was from a close large family and proudly boasted about her two sons, Alvin and Henry, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A life-long Catholic, Irma was dedicated to her faith and supported the various parishes she was a part of throughout her life.  Additionally, Irma supported a wide variety of Catholic charities.  Since moving to DeFuniak Springs, Irma attended, and was an active member of, Saint Margaret Catholic Church.  She also volunteered for several community charities in the in DeFuniak Springs area helping those in need. 

She is preceded in death by her husband, George; parents, Luis and Mercedes; brothers Raul and Ruperto; and sister, Bertha. 

Irma is survived by her sons, Alvin and his wife, Becky, and Henry and his wife, Cabrini; grandchildren, John, Victoria and her husband, Steven, Julia, Sage, Alexander, Kathryn, Brooke, and Landon; as well as great- grandchildren, Raleigh and Wesley.

A time of visitation will be held Sunday, September 27, 2020 in the chapel of Davis-Watkins Funeral Home, 1474 Highway 83 North, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32433 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be private family only. Irma will be laid to rest beside her husband, George, at the Beal Memorial Cemetery in Fort Walton Beach.

 Arrangements and services are under the direction of Davis-Watkins Funeral Home.
