Irene Frazier Obituary

Irene Ann Carmichael Frazier of Fort Walton Beach passed away peacefully Saturday, March 20, 2021 at the age of 84 from complications of dementia, with her family by her side.

She was born to Irene and Emmitt Kilcoyne November 19,1936 in New Orleans, Louisiana. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.  All who knew her, remember her funny stories and kind heart. Irene loved spending time with her family and attending sporting events, such as Troy Trojan football and baseball games and numerous local golf tournaments with her soul mate, Jim Frazier.

Irene lived in Fort Walton Beach for 65 years, during which time she briefly worked at Choctawhatchee High School as an assistant to H.A. Bruner. In 1969, she followed Mr. C.F. Reynolds to the new Fort Walton Beach High School and worked as his assistant. In July 1971, Irene began working at Eglin AFB in the secretarial pool and decided to go back to school at University of West Florida to obtain her bachelor’s degree. She then continued to seek a master’s degree from Troy University. Afterward, she obtained a position at Base Contracting where she worked on the AAMRAM program. She eventually retired in January of 1995. After a few years of retirement, Irene decided to go work part time and help her friend Mary Moxley in the gift shop at a hotel on Okaloosa Island. She married Jim Frazier on October 28, 2002 and proceeded to be a lady of leisure, trying new restaurants, traveling, and enjoying all of life’s little pleasures, especially her Dillard’s charge card. She learned from Jim, “if you like something, buy it in every color” and so she did.

She is survived by her two sons, Bobby Carmichael of Shalimar and Larry (Dawn Johnson) Carmichael of Navarre; three grandchildren, Ashley Carmichael, Alex Carmichael, Chad (Amanda) Carmichael; two great-grandchildren, Leia and Dylan; and a sister, Mary Clare Cevelio.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Irene and Emmitt Kilcoyne; siblings, Pat Kilcoyne, Billy Kilcoyne, Elaine Reese, Ray Kilcoyne; and her husband, James “Jim” Frazier.

Visitation will take place Thursday, March 25th at 1:00 p.m. at Davis-Watkins Funeral Home, 113 Racetrack Road, N.E., Fort Walton Beach, Florida 32547, with the service to immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Beal Memorial Cemetery.
