Henry Burgess Obituary

Henry Lee Burgess, Sr., age 76, passed away on December 30, 2025. He was born in Florala, Alabama, on March 31, 1949, to Cecil Burgess and Louise Nobles and later made his home in Darlington, Florida.

Henry proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, an experience that reflected his strong sense of duty, discipline, and commitment—qualities that guided him throughout his life.

Henry was a devoted husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He shared a very special marriage with his beloved wife, Leritha Burgess, whom he married in 1988. Their relationship meant everything to him, and his deep love and loyalty to her were evident to all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Leritha; his five children, Henry Lee Burgess, Jr.; Gary Edward Burgess (Angie); Christopher Grey Burgess (Lee Ann); Kelli Louise Burgess; and Hope Elizabeth Allen (Chase); and his three stepchildren, Vicky Castleberry (Wade), Shannon Scroggins, and Matthew Scroggins (Janette), along with many special grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In his younger years, Henry enjoyed hunting and fishing. Later in life, he developed a love for puzzles and was a devoted fan of the Florida State Seminoles. He also had a special fondness for dogs, especially Dachshunds.

Henry was a true family man—loyal, dependable, meticulous, and someone you could always count on. Known lovingly as Honey, Daddy, Dad, PawPaw, and Papa, he embraced every role with pride and devotion. Tall in stature and steady in character, he was known for his reliability, his strong values, and his sense of humor that brought smiles to those around him. He was deeply loved and very special to his family.

In accordance with Henry’s wishes, he will be cremated, and no formal services will be held. Rather than mourning, he asked that his life be remembered through shared stories, cherished memories, and celebrations of the moments that made him who he was.

Henry will be deeply missed and forever loved.
