Helen Ward Obituary

Helen Rhogean Ward, age 90, of Ozark, Alabama, formerly a resident of Ponce de Leon, Florida, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2026. She was born July 20, 1935 in Brewton, Alabama to Henry and Nellie Wright Monk and was the last surviving child of six. Helen was a dedicated member of Southwide Baptist Church in DeFuniak Springs for many years. During this time, serving as a faithful servant of the Lord, she would deliver cassette tapes to shut-ins and the local nursing home of the pastor’s sermons. In the early nineties, she moved from DeFuniak Springs to Ponce de Leon and enjoyed living close to other family members. She worked and retired after 20 plus years with Conoco.  Helen was deservingly recognized as the matriarch of her family. She had a deep love for her family, always encouraging and helping them any way she could.

She is preceded in death by her husband who passed in 1997, Delmar Ward; two brothers, H.G. Monk and Robert “Bob” Monk; three sisters, Doris Todd, Jackie Lancaster, and Juanita Stanley; and one granddaughter, Nicole Stanley.

Helen is survived by one son, Randal L. Ward and wife, Terri; two daughters, Karen Asselstine and husband, Mark and Kim Permenter and husband, Robert; seven grandchildren, Scott, Brian, Mark Alexander, Christina, Alica, Charlie, and Courtney; four great-grandchildren, Sierra, Riley, Issaac, and Zoey; one sister-in-law, Betty Monk; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A time of visitiation will be held Thursday, June 25, 2026 in the chapel of Davis-Watkins Funeral Home, 1474 State Highway 83 North DeFuniak Springs, Florida, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services wil be held Friday, June 26, 2026 in the chapel beginning at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Douglas Hogg officiating. Committal will follow at Southwide Church Cemetery. The family will be accepting flowers or if you wish a donation can be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Helen's honor.
