Grayce Palmer Obituary

Grayce Lee Palmer was born in Manassas, Georgia on 1 September 1931, to the late Clifford and Daisy Bowers.  She departed this life on 15 October 2020, in Destin, Florida.  Grayce moved to Plainfield, NJ in early childhood, 1941, where she lived until married in 1951.  She received her high school diploma from North Plainfield High School in New Jersey in 1949.  Grayce met and married the late Pharmacist Henry Palmer Jr. and they moved to Westfield, New Jersey, later moved to Newark New Jersey, then eventually went back to her roots settling in Savannah, GA.  To be closer to her family she transitioned to Niceville, Florida where she remained till departing the Earth.

She was a loving and devoted wife and mother.  Grayce loved to cook (she enjoyed making, selling, and teaching others to make her famous apple dumplings), sewing, and taking care of her family.  She held many jobs throughout her working years as a fashion model sponsored by the Shaffer Brewing Company, as an actress she appeared in the movie “Come Back, Charleston Blue”, posed with Louis Armstrong in the New Year’s Eve issue of “Jet Magazine” in 1963.  Grayce was a phenomenal typist in her era where she secured her first job out of high school typing as an administrative discharge specialist at Camp Kilmer New Jersey, her experience there landed her a job with Lockheed Electronics where  she was introduced to Word Processing, she later became a legal secretary and head of the word processing center for Shanley & Fisher Law Firm in Newark, New Jersey, she also worked at ITT Wall Street district of Manhattan, New York as a word processing analyst, for the Newark, NJ Star Ledger newspaper she became a lead typist. Later years of her life to keep active she became a Walmart associate in Savannah, GA, a certified tractor trailer driver for J.B. Hunt, and an elementary school bus driver for Savannah, GA.  Grayce was also a dedicated and faithful member of The United House of Prayer in Savannah Georgia.

She is survived by one loving sister, Loretta Johnson of Silver Spring, Maryland.  Grayce had three other siblings that preceded her in death, Anita Ford of Plainfield, New Jersey, Archie Bowers of California, and Betty Johnson of Plainsboro, New Jersey. Grayce has three sons, Henry Hayward Palmer III (Sharon), of Atlanta, Georgia, Craig Bryan Palmer (Alberta) of Niceville, Florida, and Marvan Keith Palmer (Patricia) of Plainfield, New Jersey.  She had nine grandchildren and approximately five great-grandchildren.  We believe she is with Jesus and His angles, instructing them on the correct way to make apple dumplings!
