Georgina Bahamonde

Georgina Bahamonde of Valparaiso, Florida, passed away January 19, 2023.

Georgina lived at The Manor at Bluewater Bay in Niceville, Florida during her final years.  Georgina was born on July 27, 1932 to Eugenio Lopez Sanchez and Rosa Castellano Lopez in Havana, Cuba.

On October 17, 1953 Georgina married Michael Bahamonde (Miguel); together they lived in Havana and Santiago, Cuba until they fled to the United States in August of 1960, seeking a better life for their family.

Georgina is survived by her daughters, Mayda (John) Gunnell and Ana (Paco) Rabell, as well as five grandchildren, Peter Given, Matthew (Morgan) Given, Zachary (Jessie) Given, Ana-Maria Naryshkin (Kevin Eis) and Sofia Gunnell.

Georgina was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Bahamonde (57 years); father, Eugenio Lopez Sanchez; mother, Rosa Castellano Lopez; brother, Eugenio Lopez; and sister, Sylvia Lopez. Georgina lived a life dedicated to her faith while nurturing her own children to be “caring yet, independent thinkers” in their respective professions.

Georgina, while diminutive in stature, was the rock of the family, always guiding them with her wisdom, strength, wit and kindness.  She is remembered for her joy for life and her indomitable spirit.

 A memorial service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 17, 2023 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Fort Walton Beach, Florida.  Graveside services will follow at Heritage Gardens Cemetery, Niceville, Florida.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Manor at Bluewater Bay, 1500 N. Point Road, Niceville, Florida, 32578 (Resident Council, in memory of Georgina Bahamonde).
