George Michael Freeman, age 80, of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, passed away Sunday, April 23, 2023, at his home. He was born September 19, 1942, in Washington, D.C., to the late George Freeman and Marian Erickson Freeman. After graduating from high school, George proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He completed four years of college and enjoyed his work as a mechanic and heavy equipment operator. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, working in the yard, playing on his tractor and most of all riding his motorcycle.
George was preceded in death by his parents, George and Marian Freeman; daughter, Gwendolynn Gras; grandson, Marc Daniel Freeman; granddaughter, Samantha Freeman; sister, Ruth Ann Druggish; and brother, Paul Edward Freeman.
George is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Norma Jean Freeman; daughters, Rhonda Baxley (Glenn) and Marian Smith (Merlin); sons, Walter Freeman (Danelle), Willard Freeman, Johnny Ray Burns, and Mark Allen Freeman; granddaughter, Norma Jean Ke-a (Paul); sister, Thora Jellete Freeman (Greg Yarborough); brother-in-laws, Sam Druggish and Ervin Gras; nineteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren and many other dearly loved family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 6, 2023, beginning at 11:00 a.m., in the chapel of Davis-Watkins Funeral Home, 1474 State Highway 83 North, DeFuniak Springs, Florida, 32433. A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
