Francis McMillan Obituary

Francis N. (Mac) McMillan, age 96, of Niceville, Florida passed away Saturday, March 14, 2020, in the nursing home in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida.  He was born May 26, 1923, to James and Margaret McMillan in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

At a young age, his family moved to Lake Wales, Florida where his parents managed the Bok Tower until their retirement.  Mac was the groundskeeper until he left for the University of Florida.  Upon graduation from UF, with a Master’s Degree in hand, he began his career as an Assistant State Chemist in Tallahassee and from there he went to Eglin where he was involved in research for the Climatic Hanger.  Also, he worked with NASA in the Apollo program before ending his career, again returning to Eglin as an engineer in research and development. Mac was a veteran of World War II, serving his country proudly in the United States Navy. He was a very devoted member and deacon of (First Baptist Church of Valparaiso) Cornerstone Worship Center in Valparaiso, Florida.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gladys Thorn McMillan; one brother, Emory McMillan; and two sisters, Mary Loveless and Inez Richards.

Mac is survived by two sons, Neill McMillan (Ramano) of Grande Prairie, Texas and Robert “Bob” McMillan of Niceville, Florida; one grandson, Daniel McMillan (Anna) of Minnesota; one granddaughter, Emily McMillan of Laurel Hill, Florida; a little great-granddaughter arriving in April; and several nieces and nephew.
