Fayla Xuripha Dunaway, age 75, passed away peacefully February 17, 2025. She was born January 26, 1950, in DeFuniak Springs, Florida to James Knight and Mary Fayla Ward Hare. Fayla lived a vibrant and deeply fulfilling life, characterized by her unwavering love for her family, her passion for adventure, and her infectious spirit. Fayla was known for her adventurous spirit and zest for life. She embraced a variety of hobbies, from fishing and racing to camping and arts and crafts. She was known affectionately as the "snack master”. Whether at the casino or around a campfire, Fayla's laughter was a constant source of warmth and happiness that filled the hearts of those around her.
She is preceded in death by her devoted husband, Jimmy Dunaway, as well as her parents and several brothers.
Fayla is survived by her four adoring children: Tabatha Kidder (Rick), Elizabeth Messer (Robby), Little Jimmy Dunaway (Dee Dobber), and Ricky Toot Toot Brassell; grandchildren, Kyle Kidder (Parrish), Corey Kidder (Rebecca), Jessie Messer, Emmah Dunaway (Jacob), Eden Dunaway, and Adrianna; numerous great grandchildren; her best friend, Kathy King; two sisters, Minerva Reddick and Annie Belle Caudill; step-father, Willard Hare; step-sister, Diane Simmons; along with many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, February 20, 2025, at Hatcher Cemetery in Freeport, Florida beginning at 2:00 p.m. with Brother Mike Bowden officiating.
Arrangements and services are under the direction of Davis-Watkins Funeral Home of DeFuniak Springs.
