Eveline “Evelyn” Evans, a resident of Ponce de Leon, Florida passed away Friday, October 22, 2021, at the age of 76. She was born November 23, 1944, in Ponce de Leon, Florida to the late Henry and Thelma Manning. Evelyn was an active member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. She was known as the matriarch of the family, always willingly taking on extra responsibilities for family functions. Evelyn was a hard worker inside as well as outside her home. She sewed, quilted, prepared meals, and worked in the garden and with the flowers in her yard. Her grandchildren were truly loved and looked forward to visiting her home.
She is preceded in death by her first husband, Dewey “Junior” Byrd, one brother, James Henry Manning, and two sisters, Ruby Grantham and Doris Davis.
Evelyn is survived by her husband, Roy Evans; two sons, Curtis and Stanley Byrd; one daughter, Crystal Shepherd; two stepdaughters, Lillian French and Linda Griffin; two brothers, Buddy and Frank Manning; three sisters, Ruth Collinsworth, Gladys Moore, and Voncile Canoy; nine grandchildren, three step grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and three step great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 26, 2021, beginning at 11:00 in the chapel of Davis-Watkins Funeral Home, 1474 Highway 83 North, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32433 with Reverend Richard Murray officiating. A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Committal services will follow at the New Ponce de Leon Cemetery.
