Eugene R. Fowler, age 90, passed away peacefully in his Choctawhatchee Bay home in Freeport, Florida, April 9, 2022. Gene, as he was known, was born in Bronx, New York, June 17,1931 to Anna and Claude Fowler who, along with his 5 siblings Mildred, Jeannette, Elliott, Claude and Edmund had predeceased him. He was preceded in death by son-in-law, Joseph McCormack, in 2020. After his service in the Marine Corps, Gene married his soulmate Anna on November 3, 1956. In 1958, they moved to Brick, New Jersey, where they raised their six children while he worked at Lakehurst Naval Air Station. He retired in 1987 and moved to Freeport, Florida for his final 35 years. It was there he added a large sunroom to the retirement home and worked part time as a courier for Trustmark Bank for twelve years. He was a parishioner, Eucharistic Minister, and active volunteer for many years at Saint Rita Catholic Church. He was a gentle and quiet soul his family could always count on and the man who always laughed at a good joke. We will always carry in our hearts the annual summer camping excursions where the family of eight visited all 48 contiguous states building lasting memories and bonds.
Gene is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Anna; daughters Theresa McCormack and Jean Bisson and husband Bradford; sons, James, Daniel and wife Mary Ann, Robert and wife Lisa, and William and wife, Heidi. Adding to the tears of loss are twenty-two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be held at 1:00 P.M., April 29, 2022, at Saint Rita Catholic Church, Santa Rosa Beach, Florida 32459. Interment will follow immediately the service.
Arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Watkins of DeFuniak Springs.
