For Ernest A. Cockcroft, age 91, faith became sight on Sunday, January 3, 2021. Ernest was born September 1, 1929 to Reuben and Mertie (Cook) Cockcroft in Red Oak, Alabama. A veteran, Ernest was in the U.S. Army National Guard and was called up to serve in the Korean War. Ernest graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Troy State College in 1958, and taught in Alabama and Florida. Ernest worked for the State of Florida with Health and Rehabilitative Services, retiring in 1992.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Glen, infant brother Archie, and a sister Clara Bozeman.
Ernest is survived by his loving wife of fifty-five years, Faye Cockcroft; his two daughters, Sheila Hudson and Kim (Bruce) Collier; three grandchildren, Emma and Andrew Hudson and Grace Collier; sister, Shirley Evans of Arizona; special sister-in-law, Betty Cockcroft; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A time of family visitation will be held at Davis Watkins Funeral Home in DeFuniak Springs on Friday, January 8, 2021 beginning at 10 a.m. with funeral services following at 11 a.m. with Reverend Sherry Hicks officiating. Interment will be at Red Oak Baptist Church Cemetery.
