Elnora Spencer Campbell, social butterfly, dessert lover, and card sharp, died on April 9, 2026 at the age of 96. She was just short of her goal of living to one hundred years old. She was born in Holt, Florida, where she grew up with her life-long best friend, May Nask, and would eventually meet her first husband, Richard "Richie" Warren Spencer. Elnora and Richie spent 53 years together until his death in 1998. Their home was a happy place filled with love and adventure for their grandchildren. She married her second husband, Porter Campbell, in 2006 and they enjoyed three years together until his death in 2009.
Known as “Ellie” to some of her friends, she loved to meet new people. Always observant of those around her and willing to “make the first move” especially if she thought someone might be lonely. She was a dedicated and loyal friend who delighted in sharing stories, pictures, gossip, and always ready to laugh with a quick turn of phrase or a fictional word not found in any standard dictionary. She enjoyed crafts, gardening, cooking and was active in her church. Ellie loved bowling and playing cards and it was rumored that she had a less than stellar adherence to the rules of play, though that was never proven. Sometimes her trademark stubbornness could make her quick to anger but she was always willing to forgive or apologize and throughout her life she held no grudges. The one notable exception might have been her sister, Betty, her life-long confidant and rival with whom she shared deep affection sprinkled with aggravation.
Devoted to her family, she was known as, “Me-Me,” and “More Me-Me” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren respectively. Me-Me was an excellent listener, ally, and secret rule-breaker who could always be counted on for an extra piece of cake, candy, or the viral toy that was desperately “needed.” Me-Me loved children and would always play any game. Her most steadfast holiday rule was to eat dessert first before her meal – and if Me-Me was there the grandkids could do it too.
Elnora was a dedicated mother and is survived by four generations of descendants including her children Richard L. Spencer and his wife Lucy, Cheryl S. Broxson and her husband Richard. Her grandchildren are Michelle Winchester, Amanda Heath, Shana F. Kirk, Guy Spencer, Richard W. Cox “Richie”, and Amanda Hutcherson “Jamie.” Her great-grandchildren are Nicholas, Monica, Abigail, Kelsey, Amanda Joy, Brad, Samantha, Holly, Caitrin, Kyle, Skye, Ella, Jakob, Karina, Spencer, Sarrah, Brittany, and Samantha. Her great-great-grandchildren are Colter, Michael, Madisynn, Kynlee, Braylon, Ryliegh, Tate, Lauren, Caden, and Bentley.
Elnora’s family will forever be grateful to VITAS Hospice at Sacred Heart Hospital as they provided the utmost kindness during her passing from this life. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you “make the first move” with someone in your life in honor of Elnora. Choose someone who might be lonely and offer them friendship by sharing some harmless gossip, some dessert, or maybe a card game. For anyone who has insurmountable shyness, you may alternatively make a contribution in her name to the food pantry at First Baptist Church, 6797 Caroline St, Milton, Florida 32570
