It is with a heavy heart that the family of Ellen Place announces her passing on December 23, 2024.
Ellen lived a life filled with adventure, love, and family. Born in Germany on October 17, 1941, as one of six children, she trained as a nurse before meeting Bruce Place, an American serviceman who became her husband. They married in 1963, moved to America, and raised three daughters: Susan (Thad), Kathy (Rob), and Marian (Matt). Ellen’s legacy lives on in them, her seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren, whom lovingly knew her as “Oma”. She is survived by four siblings. Her husband, Bruce, preceded her in death in 2022.
Ellen's energy was boundless. She was a distinguished marathon runner, avid bowler, and Scrabble enthusiast. She kept an immaculate home and took joy in caring for others, especially children. While her daughters were in grade school, she served in the cafeteria at Edge Elementary where she cherished seeing smiling faces each day. Nothing brought her greater joy than watching over her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She often called them “schatzi” – her little treasures.
Fiercely loved and remembered for her warmth, strength, and unyielding spirit, Ellen will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
