Elizabeth “Beth” Louise Henderson Steele Chance, 82, passed peacefully in Hospice Care in Crestview, Florida the evening of Thursday November 12, 2020.
Beth was born on Thursday, June 16, 1938 in Crestview Florida to Nellie Hamilton Henderson and Huey Henderson.
Beth was a proud alumnus of Crestview High school, class of 1956. She was a member of the band and played the clarinet.
After high school Beth began her career at Southeastern Telephone Company where she worked until the late 70’s. In the 80’s Beth ran her own business providing painting and wallpaper hanging services throughout Okaloosa County. Her most recent profession included care giving.
Beth’s most favorite times were spent with her family; especially her grands who referred to her as Granny. She rarely declined an opportunity to go fishing, especially if it was on the Choctawhatchee River or Black Creek. In her lifetime she has been a resident of not only Crestview but also Destin and Freeport.
Beth is survived by all five of her children; Peter (Fran) J. Steele, II (San Leon, TX), Terry (Susie) Steele (Crestview, FL), Pamela (David) Dodson (Freeport, FL), David Shawn (Tanya) Steele (Destin, FL) and Anna (Brent) Keeney (Pace, FL): all eleven of her grandchildren, Jeremy Steele (San Leon, TX), Peter (Erika) J. Steele (Greenwood, IN), Nina (Nick) Borthwick (Freeport, FL), Natalie Crumbley (Freeport, FL), Charles“Chase” Dodson (Destin, FL), Marissa (Thomas) O’Drain(Freeport, FL), Shawna (Dustin) Beach (Perry, FL), Stacey Steele (Perry, FL), Elizabeth Shea (Clay) Gates (Foley, AL), Breanna Keeney (Pace, FL) and Chance Keeney (Pace, FL); twelve of her great grandchildren, Amrie Steele, Tanner Steele, Rebecca Steele, Caleb Steele, Coleman Borthwick, Kendall Borthwick, Clayton Borthwick, Beau Bryant, Kennedy O’Drain, Tatum O’Drain, Brighton Beach and Henry Gates; her sisters, Annette Brown (Crestview, FL) and Barbara (Bill) Slocumb (Shalimar, FL); nephew, Stephen (Lesley) Brown; nieces, Cynthia Vives and Christina (Jonathan) Leon Gonzalez and her close friend of many years, Rob Laveque.
Beth is preceded in death by her husband, Glenn A. Chance; grandson, Dylan Hussey; nephew, David Hamilton Brown and Brother-in-law, Wilbur Brown.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy Steele, P.J. Steele, Chase Dodson, Chance Keeney, Coleman Borthwick and Steve Brown.
Funeral Services will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at Davis Watkins Funeral Home, 113 NE Racetrack Road, Fort Walton Beach, FL 32547, visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. Beth will be buried alongside her husband, Glenn Chance at Barrancas National Cemetery, NAS Pensacola on November 19, 2020 at 11:00 a.m.
