Elizabeth Lynn Benson, Liz, was born August 19, 1957 and transitioned May 28th, 2020. She was the fourth of five children born to parents Daniel and Patricia Benson who precede her in death. Liz is survived by her three children who love and cherish her memory: Courtney Lee (Pete) of Milton, GA.; Samantha Hite (Max) of Santa Rosa Beach, FL.; and Adam Hite (Anne) of Chicago, IL. She has three grandchildren: Casey, Lincoln and William who adored their Yaya. She is also survived by four siblings with whom she shared a very special bond: Deborah, Leigh, Daniel, and Kirk.
Liz lead an amazing life raising her children and pursuing her love for fitness, travel, and rescuing animals. She was a determined woman who, even with three small children, ran the Chicago marathon on her 40th birthday. She earned her Masters degree in Exercise Physiology from Georgia State University and ran a successful Yoga and Pilates studio in Georgia for many years. Her love for travel eventually led her to live in the jungles of Costa Rica. While living in Costa Rica, she co-founded an animal welfare organization called The Tripod Foundation. She worked passionately to better the lives of animals in the local community.
Liz will be remembered as a compassionate spirit who loved her family deeply. She was incredibly proud of her children and grandchildren, a pride she loved to share with anyone who would listen. There was no distance too great that she would travel to be with her family and loved ones. Those precious moments shared will live on in her loved ones’ hearts forever.
While her family grieves her loss, they are choosing to remember Liz in a way that honors her spirit. There will be a small, private service for the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to PAWS (Panhandle Animal Welfare Society). https://www.paws-shelter.org/
The family also welcomes cards of sentiment and fond memories of Liz. Please send cards to: Davis-Watkins - Miramar Beach, Attn: The Elizabeth Lynn Benson Memorial, 9561 US Highway 98 West, Miramar Beach, FL 32550
