Dr. Norman Clinkscales Obituary

Dr. Norman Bull Clinkscales of Destin, Florida, died on April 15, 2025, after a battle with cholangiocarcinoma. A celebration of life will be held on April 27, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at The Venue at Beach Weekend in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, with Chaplain Jon Wuerffel, PhD, officiating. Interment will be at Trinity Methodist Church in Bamberg, South Carolina at 11:00 a.m. on May 3, 2025. Dr. Clinkscales is survived by his wife, Tracey Marie Chastain-Clinkscales, of Destin. A devoted physician for over forty-five years and cherished father to his four sons, Dr. Jeffrey Durant Clinkscales (Joanna) of Signal Mountain, Tennessee, Marshall Adams Clinkscales (Kandace) of Beaufort, South Carolina, Dr. William Bull Clinkscales (May) of Nashville Tennessee, and Andrew Thomas Clinkscales (Alana) of Chattanooga, Tennessee; ten grandchildren; two sisters, Sallye Clinkscales Bunch of Bamberg, South Carolina, and Meg Clinkscales Kelly (Larry) of Pawleys Island, South Carolina; three nieces; five nephews; six great nieces; and four great nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Marshall McGowan (Mac) Clinkscales, Maude Bull Clinkscales; and brother-in-law, Allen Keith Bunch, all of Bamberg, South Carolina.

Dr. Clinkscales was born in Bamberg, SC, on July 8, 1955. He graduated Cum Laude from Wofford College in 1977 in Spartanburg, SC, with a degree in Biology. After college, he received a medical doctor degree from The Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, S.C., in 1981. He did a general surgery internship at Orlando Regional Medical Center and a radiology residency at the University of South Florida Medical Center. He was an active member of the American College of Radiology, Florida Medical Association and American Medical Association.

He was also an Associate Clinical Professor of Radiology at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine from 1994 to 1995. He also served on the Medical Disciplinary board of medical examiners in the state of South Carolina from 1994 until 2000, President of the South Carolina Radiological Society from 1998 through 2000, American College of Radiology Councilor from 1998 to 2001 and American college of Radiology RADPAC Advisory Council from 1998 until 2001. He has been the Medical Director of Imaging at White-Wilson Medical Center in Fort Walton Beach since 2009 and a radiologist at the Institute of Diagnostic Imaging for a few months before his death.

Norman dedicated his life to serving others and had an unquenchable love for people and animals. Outside of his professional career Norman was a scuba diver, pilot, sky diver, professional pickle ball referee, skilled marksman, South Carolina State Constable and mentor to many. He also volunteered with many animal rescue organizations as a radiology consultant and pilot, often flying animals to receive lifesaving treatments. He loved traveling and was always up for an adventure. He was known for and loved taking people flying for the first time. Norman loved teaching. He was always sharing his incredible knowledge with others which gave him great pride.
