Dr. James Edward Wagner

February 2, 1933 ~ September 17, 2022 (age 89)

Obituary

James Edward Wagner, 89, a resident of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, went to worship his King Jesus face to face on Saturday, September 17, 2022, in his home.

James was born on February 2, 1933, to James Peter and Inez May Wagner in Washington, Pennsylvania.  He married Lois Jean Wagner, the love of his life, December 26, 1954.  James attended Washington High School and went on through the years to earn his Doctorate in theology.  He joined the United States Air Force in 1953 and served his country with pride for twenty-two years. The day that changed his life forever was June 8, 1973, when James asked Jesus to be his Lord and Savior. From that moment on, he shared Jesus with most everyone he spoke to and lived his life to glorify King Jesus.  Upon retiring from the military in September of 1975, James started teaching high school and then became principal at Fort Walton Christian School.  He also volunteered as an auxiliary officer for the Fort Walton Beach Police Department.

In 1980, Harold Tabb and James, under the direction of our Lord Jesus, started Gulf Coast Baptist Church. After serving as assistant pastor and principal for thirty-two years, James  retired in 2012.   He touched many lives and gave himself selflessly to all whom he came in contact; always sharing the love of Jesus.

James is survived by his wife, Jean; his children, Jimmy and Paula Wagner, Sharon and David Martin, Karen and Marvin Hudson; his grandchildren, Kristi and Chris Cash, Kalyn and D.J. Fields, Randy and Ashley Martin, Stephanie and Greg Horvath, Tiffany and Chad Bomar, Nathan Wagner, Jennifer Fields, Sara Bailey, Hillary Hudson, Christina and Seth Purkey, Brandon Bishop, Mason Mrus, Leigha Cash; and great grandchildren, Bella Cash, Levi Cash, Joslyn Field, Gizella Horvath, Reagan Bomar, Rowan Bomar, Olivia Bailey, Margaret Purkey; sisters, Dolores Gump, Marilyn Bedillion, and Carolyn Antanaitis.

James is preceded in death by his brother, Howard Wagner, and his parents.

The family would like to extend a thank you to Gulf Coast Baptist Church and also a special thank you to all James’s friends.
