Doris Velma McGraw, 88, of Crestview, Florida, went to be with her Savior June 9, 2022.
She was born March 5, 1934, in Nokomis, Alabama to Mack and Allie Carraway. After high school, Doris met and fell in love with Alme George McGraw; marrying January 28, 1950, in George County, southern Mississippi.
Early in their marriage Alme started to work for the Florida Parks and Recreation Department allowing the family to live on park property beginning at Pensacola, Florida. The family moved to many different parks as Alme advanced in his career; mom was right there with him making every place a home regardless of some very difficult situations, always without complaining and much hard work.
In their later years, after retirement, they moved to Crestview because of Alme’s declining health and to be close to their son, Joel. Doris was devoted to Alme through “sickness and in health, for richer or for poorer… until death they parted” with her husband of forty-seven years passing. She became faithful to attend Crestview Independent Baptist Church in Crestview where her son Joel is pastor.
Doris is survived by brother, Pete; sister, Dorothy; sons, Bob and Joel and their families; and twelve great-grandchildren.
Doris was preceded by husband, Alme George; son, Billy Ray; and siblings, Jesse, Dewey, Earl, and Harold.
A memorial service will be held at Crestview Independent Baptist Church, 600 North Ferdon Boulevard, Crestview, Florida 32536, Saturday, June 18, 2022 beginning at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Joel E. McGraw officiating. A light meal will be served immediately after the service. If you plan to attend the meal, please confirm by calling (850) 758-6241.
Arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Watkins Crestview Memorial.
