Don Preston Hogans, of Fort Walton Beach, passed peacefully at his home on March 20, 2026,
surrounded by his family. A native of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, he was born on January 23, 1948 to
Nokomis and Lizzie Mae Hogans.
A proud member of Tivoli High School’s Class of 1967, that same year Don entered the United States
Army and served in Vietnam during the Tet Offensive. He worked for Warner Cable/Cox
Communications in Fort Walton Beach for over 37 years and was known to many as “The Cable Man.”
After retirement, he continued to pursue his passions of golfing and enjoying his jazz. Don spent his
spare time restoring and maintaining the family home where he was born, and he and his siblings were
raised.
He was a devoted son and kept his nine brothers and four sisters close to his heart. Don had a deep and
abiding love for his four daughters—Terri, Tasha, Kiffa, and Jacqui—and cherished his role as the
grandfather of eight.
His wife of 51 years, Avis, survives him, as do his daughters Terri, Kiffa, and Jacqui; grandchildren
Khandis, Ja’Myia, Terron, Ja’Marlo, Matthew, Lorance, and Caroline; his brothers Lorenzo, Carl, Darrell,
Richard, and Delric; sisters Gwen, Sharion, and Belinda; and numerous nieces and nephews. He
treasured his friendships with James, Leroy, and nephew Reggie. He was preceded in death by his
parents; his daughter Tasha and her son La’Mario; his sister Doris; and brothers Michael, Randall, Thad,
and Nolan.
A Celebration of Life will take place Friday, March 27, 2026 at 1:00 PM at Davis-Watkins Funeral Home in
Fort Walton Beach. Interment will be at Barrancas National Cemetery at a later date.
