Dewey Miller Obituary

Dewey Wayne Miller, age 73, peacefully passed away at his home in DeFuniak Springs, while under hospice care on February 3, 2024. He was born on December 5, 1950. Wayne, as he was known at home, was a cherished husband, father, grandfather (Papa), and great-grandfather. He left a wonderful legacy and mark on all who knew him. It was hard to go to the store without meeting so many people who knew him from his time at the National Guard Armory in town.

Married for 51 years to Gail, Wayne exemplified the enduring power of love.  As a father, Wayne helped raise two children, Erik Dewayne Miller (Kim), and Stephanie Jordan (Lee).  His love expanded as Kyle Miller (Kendal), and Chloe Jordan were added to the family. They were his pride and joy. He loved watching them grow and become the light of his life. He had two great-grandchildren, Kaiden and Caelee Miller, who he loved endlessly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eric and Ruth Miller.

He is survived by his brothers, Joe Miller (Deb), Greg Miller (Angela), and sister, Joann Miller (Lane).

Dewey, as he was known at work, was very passionate about his country.  He served in the Marines for four years and then moved to the Florida National Guard for thirty plus years. He retired as a Master Sergeant in 2006, but couldn’t leave the military a man down. He consulted with the Florida National Guard for another four years.

Wayne asked that there be no viewing or funeral to mourn him. He wanted everyone to remember the happy times that were brought by him. We are asking that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Walton High School Band Boosters, 449 Walton Road, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32433 or a Veteran's charity of the donors choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Watkins Funeral Home.
