Danny Lee Wright, Sr., passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2020 at his DeFuniak Springs residence. He was born February 2, 1933 in Franklin, Kentucky to Sactus and Daisy Wright. In his youthful years, he attended school in Amelia, Ohio and was recognized for his outstanding athletic ability. Danny participated in the team sports of basketball and baseball. His personal baseball skills contributed to the high school’s baseball team state championship. They won the Ohio State Championship in 1951. His spirit for the game was passed down to his brothers and family. Also, he loved the game of football and enjoyed following the Miami Dolphins.
He attended the University of Miami before joining the Navy, courageously serving aboard a submarine during the Korean War. He made the decision to work with law enforcement and was employed with the force until he was injured on the job, forcing him to retire. Danny loved carpentry and was building his dream home so his family and friends could gather, greet, and eat.
Danny accepted Jesus into his heart, so those of us who loved him and prayed for him—we will see him again.
Danny is survived by three sons, Danny Lee Wright, Jr., Joe Teixeira, and Roan Hamby; two daughters, Bonnie Lynn Wright Loos and Irene Marshall; numerous grandchildren; two brothers, Bobby J. Proffitt and wife Debbie and Jimmy Proffitt and wife Donna; one sister, Sharon McCullough; numerous nieces and nephews; two special cousins, Donna and Rita; and many, many friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 24, 2020 in the chapel of Davis-Watkins Funeral Home, 1474 Highway 83 North, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32433 beginning at 11:00 a.m. with Minister Joel Davis officiating. A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Committal services will follow in Magnolia Cemetery.
