Our beloved Curtis Alan Berry, 43, of Houston, Texas, died unexpectedly on August 16, 2023, in a Missouri pedestrian accident. Curt was born in Minot, North Dakota, on Christmas Eve, 1979. His childhood was happy. He loved animals and his pets were a gerbil, iguana, parakeet, and a dog. Curt's favorite sports were softball and basketball. Enjoying skate boarding and roller blading, as well, Curt mastered both and was envied by all for the many tricks he could perform.
As a "military brat,” Curt lived all over the United States and in South Korea. Because of his frequent moves, he was adept at quickly making new friends at each location.
He graduated from high school in Fairborn, Ohio, and then attended the University of Florida studying environmental science. In his early adulthood, Curt worked as a food server at many restaurants in Houston where he met his future wife, Jovanna David. They married on January 14, 2017, and became parents of Layla Rose David-Berry, who now just turned five.
In 2017, Curt began his career as a long-haul truck driver. All who knew him enjoyed his stories of life on the road. He loved cooking his meals in his truck and was proud of his delicious dishes made in his air fryer. During his time off, Curt visited cities big and small, and took many photos to capture each location’s unique characteristics.
Curt was a loving son, brother, father, uncle, and friend who was very sensitive to the needs of others.
He’s survived by his parents, Janet and Scott of Niceville; brother, Christopher, also of Niceville; sister, Emily from Gainesville; his daughter, Layla, and her mother, Jovanna David from Houston; nieces, Lily and Jessica; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
There will be a funeral mass at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 1200 Valparaiso Boulevard, Niceville, Florida, at 10:00 a.m. on September 18, 2023, with a reception to follow. Interment will only be for the immediate family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the charity of one’s choice in memory of Curtis A. Berry.
