Cozetta Mae Holmes, age 95, passed away Thursday, February 2, 2023, at her home in Westville, Florida. She was born January 20, 1928, in Westville, to Carmon Brownell and Minnie Denning Brownell. Cozetta married Luther Holmes in 1947, and together they raised three children. She remained a widow for fifty-nine years after his passing in 1964. She lived most of her life in Westville, and was a faithful member of Hickory Hill Baptist Church. An amazing cook, Cozetta worked in the cafeteria at Prosperity School and later, Ponce de Leon Elementary School until she retired. In her spare time, Cozetta loved fishing and also enjoyed gardening, as she loved flowers of all kinds. When she wasn't spending time outdoors, she could often be found reading her Bible. Cozetta was a very loving and caring person who had a big heart and was a "mother" to many. She will be forever loved and missed by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Luther Holmes; and daughter, Shirley Holmes.
Cozetta is survived by her sons, Marshall and Bobby Holmes; granddaughters, Teresa Rolling (Jeremy), Katie Green (Daniel), and Maycee Holmes; a niece who was like a granddaughter to her, Sherry Jackson; one great-granddaughter, Jordan Rolling; two sisters, Edith Crober, and Lucille Minger; and many other nieces, nephews, family, friends and loved ones.
A graveside service will be held Monday, February 6, 2023, at Hickory Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Westville, Florida, beginning at 10:00 a.m., with Reverend Chris Nelson officiating.
