Clara Jean Smith, age 82, a resident of DeFuniak Springs, Florida passed away unexpectedly Sunday, November 5, 2023, at her home. She was born July 5, 1941, in DeFuniak Springs to Melvin and Ethelene Slay. She was Apostolic by faith and very dedicated to her church and church family. Baking and designing flower arrangements were enjoyable for her. Clara’s most treasured times were all the family gatherings held at her home, simply because she loved cooking tasty southern food for everyone. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Monroe Smith, Jr.; parents, Melvin and Ethelene Slay; two brothers, Carl and Joe Slay; and three sisters, Linda Campbell, Janice and Jesselyn Slay.
Clara is survived by two sons, Greg Smith and wife, Linda, and Quintin Smith and wife, Joy; two grandchildren, Brittany Denny and husband, Derek, and Zach Smith and wife, Shelby; five great-grandchildren, Kyle, Leeanne, Lilly, Rhett, and Maylee; one sister, Carol Williams; one brother-in-law, Dewitt Campbell; one sister-in-law, Irene Slay; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and loved ones.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 8, 2023, beginning at 2:00 p.m., with a time of visitation one hour prior in the chapel of Davis-Watkins Funeral Home, 1474 Highway 83 North, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32433, with Reverend David King and Reverend Jonathan King officiating.
