Charlene “G.G.” Hiers Obituary

Charlene Jeanne Hiers "G.G.", 83, of Crestview, Florida, passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at North Okaloosa Medical Center Life and Family.

Charlene was born in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1942 as the second child of six. Her parents  were Dorothy and Morris Vicknair. She was married in New Orleans to Travis Hiers until 1995 when he passed away.

Although most of her jobs were as a waitress, Charlene did work for two years as a student-teacher in kindergarten here in Okaloosa County. She fondly remembered so many silly stories the children told her, which supplied her with laughs and memories over the course of her life.

One of her proudest accomplishments was publishing two children's books. Since Charlene was young, she loved to write and, upon retirement, was able to dive deep into her creative side and allow her stories to bloom.

She is survived by her daughter, Cherrie Loomis; and her Grandson, Nick Loomis and his wife, Amanda and their three Children: Gracie, Colleen and Stella. Her surviving siblings are Maryse, Anelle, Janene and Patrice.

Although, physically, Charlene has departed, and is missed so much, she experienced life fully and was always determined to live under the following: Love, Peace, Faith, Truth, Respect and Kindness.

As we celebrate her life and are grateful that she was with us so long, we must include a prayer to the Virgin Mary whom offered comfort to her throughout her life and especially during her passing:

Hail Mary full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women,

and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

A vigil will be celebrated privately by family.

Thank you to the staff at NOMC, Emerald Coast Hospice and The Wound Healing Center at NOMC.
