Carlene Collier Obituary

Carlene Collier, age 82, of Crestview, Florida, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 29, 2024, to join her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Carlene was born on September 12, 1941, in Tucumcari, New Mexico, to a rancher from San Jon, New Mexico. She grew up in Clovis, New Mexico, where she met her beloved husband, Ralph Collier, while working as a carhop. They married on May 25, 1959, three days after Carlene's graduation from Clovis High School.

Throughout her life, Carlene dedicated herself to raising her four children and supporting her husband, who served in the Air Force. Carlene worked various jobs, including at a produce stand and as a school bus driver for special needs children.

After Ralph's return from Vietnam in 1969, Ralph and Carlene were sent to Eglin Air Force Base and settled in Niceville, Florida. Later Ralph was deployed to Thailand, while Carlene continued to work and help support her family. After 22 years of military service, Carlene and Ralph retired to her hometown of Clovis, New Mexico, where they opened a successful restaurant. She worked from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. for the first two years, after which they started closing on Sundays for the Lord’s day.

While still working at the restaurant, Carlene's entrepreneurial spirit led her to obtain her real estate license, becoming one of the top realtors in New Mexico, earning the respect and admiration of fellow realtors. After raising their family and retiring from both business ventures, Carlene and Ralph returned to Florida, where they lived until Ralph's passing in December 2007.

Carlene was resilient, receiving support from her son, Coy, until his passing in 2019, and continued to live with the assistance of her sons, Don'el and Carlton, until her own passing. Carlene's love extended beyond her family; she shared deep conversations with her daughter, Pam, discussing topics ranging from recipes to politics, but always centered on their faith in Jesus Christ.

Carlene is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Collier; her son, Coy Collier; her parents, Carl Garrett and Johnnie Bass Garrett; and her brothers, Clay Garrett and Dwayne Garrett.

Carlene Collier's memory will forever be cherished by her children, Pamela Peake (Harry), Don'el Collier (Debra), and Carlton Collier (Florence); her brother, Dalton Garrett; her sister, Lavona Garrett; her sisters-in-law, Mary Garrett, Myrna Garrett, and Jean Garrett; her eight grandsons; two granddaughters; and all those whose lives she touched with her kindness and grace.

A celebration of Carlene's life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on April 20, 2024 at 3823 Highway 90 East in Crestview, Florida. All who knew her and her family are welcome to attend. Following the service, an interment ceremony will take place at 3:00 p.m. at Glendale Memorial Nature Preserve Cemetery in DeFuniak Springs, Florida.
