A Life Well lived

Carl Evans Sr., age 90, of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, passed away on February 26 at his home surrounded by family. Carl was born in Conecuh County Alabama on October 4, 1934, to Tom Evans and Bama Jackson Evans.

Carl Attended Conecuh County public schools and graduated from Conecuh County Training School in 1954. He was a member of the school band. After graduation he moved to Mobile, Alabama where he worked at Southern Tires and played upright Bass in local bands.

In 1959 he met and married the lovely Dorothy Outland of Marlin, Texas. They were married for 57 Years.

In1957 Carl joined the US Air Force and served his country for 26 Years. His Air Force career as a Structural Technician and later a Structural Engineering Technician took him around the world including being stationed at Lubbock AFB, TX; Thule Greenland; Battle Creek, MI; Panama City, FL; Panama Canal; Thailand, Las Vegas, NV; Vietnam; then Eglin AFB, Fl from 1972 -1983 retiring at the rank of Master Sergeant. He earned numerous awards and decorations for his outstanding accomplishments. He also toured with the USAF Tops in Blue bands in the early 60’s.  After leaving the military Carl worked as a self-employed general contractor renovating houses for himself and others in the local community, including 2 beauty shops operated and managed by Dorothy. Later he would work at Eglin AFB Civil Engineering as an Engineering Technician in the Planning Department. While there, he won more awards for superior performance. He retired in October 2000 to further pursue his hobbies of music and restoring /refurbishing classic cars. Carl never met a stranger and was always ready to help family, friends, and neighbors.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his brother Charles Evans, and son Carl Evans Jr. He leaves to cherish his memories, daughter Delvia Denise Evans of Fort Walton Beach, Florida; son Joseph Nicholson of Crestview, Florida; 10 Grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews dear to his heart; numerous cousins; best friend Luther Mitchell (Sheila) of Navarre, Florida; friends in the local area and around the country. 

The visitation will take place on Tuesday March 4th, 2025, from 10:00 until 11:00, immediately followed by the funeral service at Davis Watkins Funeral Home. 

Interment with Military honors will take place after the service at Beal Memorial Cemetery located at 316 Beal Parkway Fort Walton Beach, Florida.

Repast following the burial at the family home, 402 Apache St., Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
