Birdie Lafaye Holmes

Birdie Holmes, age 56, of DeFuniak Springs, Florida passed away September 12, 2021. She was born January 4, 1965 in DeFuniak Springs, Florida to the late Ben Anderson and Mavis Holmes Owens. She was Baptist by faith and a member of Union Springs Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Mavis Holmes Owens and Ben Anderson; and grandparents, Joseph and Leola Manning Holmes.

Birdie is survived by one son, Arneil (Deidre) Holmes; four daughters, Sheena Holmes, Jia Holmes, Stephanie Underwood, and Zakiya Underwood, all of Defuniak Springs, Florida; significant other, Alfred Underwood; five sisters, Curetha Holmes of Winter Springs, Florida, Joyce Barnes of DeFuniak Springs, Bonita (John) Siples of DeFuniak Springs, Victoria (Earnest) Andrews of Vernon, Florida and Althea (Thomas) Andrews of DeFuniak Springs; five brothers, Montie Holmes of DeFuniak Springs, Donald (Trici) Holmes of Kennesaw, Georgia, Anthony Oates of Oregon, Gene (Angie) Warren of Kansas, and Benjamin (Rhonda) Anderson of DeFuniak Springs; twelve grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

A time of visitation will be held Friday, September 17, 2021 in the chapel of Davis-Watkins Funeral Home, 1474 State Highway 83 North, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32433, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Graveside services will be held Saturday, September 18, 2021 at Magnolia Cemetery beginning at 3 p.m. with Reverend Alonzo Holmes officiating.
