Betty McKinnie

Betty McKinnie ascended this life here on Saturday, April 10, 2021. She was born April 16, 1944, in Chipley, Florida to Essie Mae McKinnie. Betty moved to Fort Walton Beach, Florida when she was thirteen years of age and attended Carver Hill High School in Crestview, Florida through her Junior year. She later attended W.E. Combs and was a member of the first graduating class of 1962. Betty worked at Texas Instruments, The Fort Walton Beach Hospital and Keltec. Lastly, finding her passion as a Family Home child Care Provider.

Betty was a true mentor to young men and women in her community. She strived at assisting young mothers in building self-esteem. She was a loving, nurturing and caring mother figure to many young children and adults. Betty enjoyed playing bingo. Also, she was an avid sports fan. Tennis, golf and football were among her favorite sports. She loved listening to music. Her favorite artists were James Cleveland, Shirley Caesar And Prince.

Betty leaves a loving and devoted family to cherish her memory. Seven daughters and one son,  Patriece Grimes, Deniece (Ernest) Robins, Carleane (Michael) Johnson, Carl (Sharon) Mack, Doris Mack, Robin Mack, Philana Bradberry, Linda (Lonny) Gam all of Fort Walton Beach, Florida and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. & Mrs. W.T. and Essie Mae McKinnie; her grandmother, Missionary Perleane Conley.  

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 17, 2021 at Davis Watkins Funeral Home, 113 Racetrack Road NE, Ft. Walton Beach, FL 32547 beginning at 2:00 pm.   A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.  Committal services will follow at the Beal Memorial Cemetery, 316 Beal Pkwy NW.
