Allan Smith Obituary

Allan Paul Smith, age 86, of Shalimar, Florida passed away on March 11, 2020 at the Ft. Walton Beach Medical Center. He was born June 13, 1933 in Carney, New Jersey to John and Jane Smith. Allan was the third of three children. He loved his county and proudly served the nation during his 20 year Air Force career. He served in numerous locations including Alaska, Korea, Thailand, Vietnam war, France and Japan. Allan received many military awards and citations; he worked as a baker, cook and a flight crew member. Allan retired as an Air Force Staff Sergeant and then started a second career.  He created a business which he successfully managed until retired again. He married his high school sweetheart, Mary L. Iacchini, who he met at the age of 14 while attending a dance at St Mary’s Catholic school in Holyoke, Massachusetts. Allan and Mary were married for 68 years. He was the proud father of four daughters: Elizabeth Alef (Tom), Joanne Irvine, Janet Reese, and Debbie McGraw (Jeff) who will deeply miss him. He had a lifelong devotion to his wife and family which included many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Allan was a story teller and loved to share his interests and life experiences including military life with his family and friends who loved to listen and learn from his wisdom. Allan would frequently make the statement that “I had a good life”.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the Intensive Care Unit and the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Ft Walton Beach Medical Center and the Emerald Coast Cancer Center for their care, support and compassion.

A private celebration of Allan’s life will be held at the Davis and Watkins Funeral home. Interment will be at the Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Florida following his celebration of life. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Allan Smith’s memory can be made to the International Multiple Myeloma organization or the Emerald Coast Cancer Center.
