Allan Robert Robertson, Sr.

Allan Robert Roberson, Sr. of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, passed away September 16, 2022. He was born on April 9, 1947, in Long Beach, New York, to David and Mabel Ahern Robertson.

Al enjoyed being on the water, boating and fishing.  He was also an avid motorcyclist in his 20s and 30s and more recently, at the age of 68, he reignited his love of motorcycling when he bought his Can-Am 3-wheeler. Al was a talented painter and gardener that liked to share his works with his loved ones and friends. He was very active in Alcoholics Anonymous and devoted his love, expertise and time to the organization.  Al had an incredible testimony; one night after leaving an AA meeting, he was hit by a drunk driver leaving him severely injured. The injuries left him unable to work and manage his automotive repair shop, A. Robertson Collision, but he remained active in AA.  A friend recognized Al’s strength in counseling others and encouraged him to pursue it further.  At the age of 44, Al went to college to be a drug and alcohol counselor.  He earned his bachelor’s degree and continued his education throughout his career earning a master’s degree, then eventually his doctorate’s degree.  Al helped and loved many people. Even after his retirement, Al worked with outreach and was currently a counselor at Bayshore Retreat in Destin, Florida.        

Al is survived by his wife of 42 years, Donna Robertson; sons, Allan Robertson, Jr. (Diane), Brian Robertson (Maria); sisters-in-law, Barbara Dressler (Joseph), Susan Gonzalez (Jose), Lorretta Macchia, JoAnne Macchia; five grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends of Bill W. and his beloved pets.  He was preceded in death by his sister, Gail Anderson (Jimmy); and brothers-in-law, Carmine Macchia and Michael Macchia. 

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m., central (1:00 p.m., eastern time), on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at Davis-Watkins Funeral Home, 113 Racetrack Road, NE, Fort Walton Beach, FL 32547.  A livestream of the service will be broadcasted on Al’s obituary page at www.daviswatkins.com.  For those watching on a desktop computer, please “Turn Music Off” under his photo.
