Alexander Meri-Akri, age 85, of Fort Walton Beach, Florida passed away on January 18, 2022. Alex was born on August 30, 1936 in Moscow, Russia to Angelina Meri-Akri and Alexander Ablizev. He lived and traveled all over the world, before settling in Fort Walton Beach over 30 years ago.
Alexander was an Episcopalian, with his faith being a very important part of his life. He was very active as an usher at St Simon’s, where he got to know his fellow parishioners. He was an avid foodie and sous-chef – often delighting his family and friends with gourmet dishes influenced from his and his wife’s journeys around the world. Nothing delighted him more than an evening of fellowship with friends culminating at the dinner table, except maybe an arousing game of cards. Alex had a fun, adventurous spirit which could be seen in his love of life. He captured his adventures in the books he enjoyed writing and sharing with his loved ones. He was a successful engineer, following in his parents’ footsteps.
Survivors include his daughters, Michelle (Carl) Walker, Cindy (Tim) Sprott, Lori (Chris) Cairo, Angela (Jack) Bay, and Jene VanBaest; seven grandchildren; and his two sister-in-laws, Gloria (Frank) Roberts and Sharon (Rick) Abbott. He will be greatly missed.
