Alan Maurus Reck, 86, of Shalimar, Florida, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones. Born in Waltham, Massachusetts, he was the beloved son of Ellis Canon Reck and Violet Richardson Reck.
Alan was proud to serve his country as a flight engineer in the United States Air Force, where his passion for aviation took flight. That love of flying continued throughout his life — he became a pilot of both small aircraft and eventually the mighty C-130.
When he wasn’t flying around the world, Alan could often be found behind the wheel of a semi-truck or hauling RVs to dealerships across the United States and Canada. He simply loved to be on the move, exploring new places and meeting new people.
A true adventurer at heart, Alan enjoyed boating, water skiing, RV-ing, and spending time with his grandchildren. He also kept his love of flying alive through his computer flight simulator and his ever-curious mind through reading — he was an avid follower of world events, regularly reading from at least ten international news sites.
Alan will be laid to rest with military honors at Barrancas National Cemetery on Friday, November 14, at 11:00 a.m.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for his adventurous spirit, sharp wit, and the unwavering pride he took in his service, his family, and his many journeys through life.
