Thomas Michael Girocco, was born August 6, 1938 in Muskegon, Michigan, passed away at age of 80 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Miramar Beach, Florida at 10:25am, Saturday, September 22, 2018. Mr. Girocco died due to complications after suffering a stroke on Sunday, September 16. Tom, who was often referred to as the “best boss ever” by his employees had a successful 40 year broadcasting career in Grand Rapids, Michigan, New York City, New York, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and Toledo, Ohio. Mr. Girocco, who served in the U.S. Navy, held a Master of Arts Degree in Communications from Michigan State University and a Masters of Business Administration from Harvard University.
Tom was cherished by his son, Michael Girocco and wife, Julie Slakter Girocco, of Edmond, Oklahoma, and daughter, Elizabeth Girocco Patterson and husband, David Patterson, of Dallas, Texas. Mr. Girocco had four loving grandchildren, including Max Patterson-Nash of Los Angeles, California, Harris Girocco of San Francisco, California, Slater Girocco of Champaign, Illinois and Katherine Patterson of Dallas, Texas. Tom had one great granddaughter, Ace Nash of Los Angeles, California.
He was an avid skier and boater, sharing his time between the Gulf of Mexico in Destin, Florida and Grand Traverse Bay in Northport, Michigan. Tom also loved to cook. Italian by heritage, he often prepared delicious pasta dishes for family and friends. Tom Girocco was a truly warm and loving person of deep Catholic faith. He possessed the unique and special gift of believing in and investing in people. He will be profoundly missed by many.
A memorial gathering will be held in his honor at the Grand Harbor condominium complex at 662 Harbor Blvd in Destin, Florida on Saturday, September 29 from 4pm to 6pm.
