Stephen Sauer Obituary

Stephen G. Sauer

July 1st, 1947 – May 19, 2018

Mr. Stephen G. Sauer passed away peacefully at home with his family on Saturday May 19th 2018.   Steve was born in Indiana on July 1st 1947 to Walter E. Sauer Jr. and Louise M. Kremer.  He is survived by his sisters: Mary M. Andrews and husband Mark of Santa Rosa Beach and Virginia L. Baker and husband Burke of Destin, his children Jacob A. Sauer and wife Lindsay of Arvada, Colorado and Shane G. Sauer and wife Cristina of Safety Harbor, Florida, and his grandchildren Kai, Bodhi, and Julian Sauer.

Steve began life living in many US and overseas locations as part of a military family but Destin, Florida was the only place he ever called his home.  After graduating high school, he pursued a degree in architecture from Louisiana State University where he met Cher L. Sacs who he later married and had his two children with. After college, Steve joined with Curtis (Buddy) Gentry to form G&S Boats  Inc.  G&S proudly crafted 52 of the finest custom yachts in the world; no other manufacturer holds more world records in fishing. Steve’s passion for design and craftsmanship lives on in this fleet and in those he inspired around him.

Steve was a highly generous man, offering help in whatever capacity he could. He cared little for material possessions, placing value instead on experiences. He loved learning, teaching, dreaming, and building his dream. Steve kept an extremely open mind and enjoyed poking and prodding at the status quo to explore change and new perspectives. He excelled in problem solving, drawing, playing pool, and arguing both sides of an issue to spur conversation.

The family will host a celebration of Steve’s life at the Harbor Docks in Destin, FL on June 8th from 3-6 pm.  Rather than sending flowers or donations, we ask that you take a moment to write down a short story about Steve and bring it to the event.  Paper and #4 drafting pencils will be provided!

Please come by and celebrate all that Steve was a part of.
