Richard Olson Obituary

Richard T. Olson, known to family and friends as Dick, went to his heavenly home Wednesday, November 7th, 2019.  Dick was born on February 10th, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan to Oliver and Mildred (Donais) Olson. He grew up in Waupun, Wisconsin with his two brothers, Ervin D. Olson (Don) and Jack L. Olson and his two sisters, Shirley J. (Hinkamp) Vande Zande and Rue L. (Hinkamp) Furman.  In 1947, he joined the Army and served during the Korean Conflict as an instructor at West Point Academy until 1951. During his time at West Point, he met and married his wife Theresa M. Secor on Feb 15, 1952.  Richard was an expert mechanic, electrician, and welder.  For over 40 years, Dick was employed with AT&T (New York Bell, Wisconsin Bell, and Ameritech).  He served on the Town of Scott, Wisconsin Planning Commission and was a CWA union steward.  He enjoyed boating, his Goldwing (Deals Gap at 80) and his model trains.

He was preceded in death by his wife Theresa, father Oliver, mother Mildred, brothers Don and Jack and sisters Shirley and Rue. 

Richard is survived by his children, Jack T. (Lisa) Olson of Ft. Myers, Florida, Jeanine (Clay) Hill of Marion, Iowa and David Olson of Freeport, Florida; special friend, Mazie (Dell) Kimrey of Milton Florida; two grandchildren, Daniel (Jessica) Hill Saginaw of Michigan and Andrew (Anna) Hill of St. Paul, Minnesota; two great-grandchildren, Silas and Addie Hill; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins.

A celebration of life will be held in Wisconsin at a future date.  The Olson family would like to express their sincere thanks to the doctors and nurses at Fort Walton Medical Center for the care they gave to Richard.
