Nancy finished her “long goodbye” from this world and Alzheimer’s at 1:05 am on December 29, 2018. She was born in Chicago, Illinois, the youngest of three girls, to Emmanuel Naxakis (1895 – 1968) of Spilia, Crete and Maria Naxakis (nee Kaprusova, 1900 – 1990) of Velky Lipnik, Slovakia. Nancy is survived by husband, Bill, daughters Laura, Lisa, Kirsten and Stephanie and their husbands Rick Rose (Pompano Beach, FL,) Brad Weber (Boulder, CO,) Kerry Howard (Fort Collins, Co,) and Dan Johnson (Edwards, CO,) respectively. Grandchildren Nikki, Alexandra and Sophia Weber and Kelsey and Tanner Howard are left with fond memories of their beloved Yia Yia.
Nancy and Bill lived in Fort Collins Colorado, and Des Moines, Iowa before retiring to the Emerald Coast in 2001, residing in Fort Walton Beach since 2006. Travel was Nancy’s profession and main love in life. She worked for TWA reservations in Chicago for many years and traveled with Bill to all the continents except Antarctica. Indeed, Nancy and Bill met on a TWA flight from Kennedy to Frankfurt in 1987 and married in Des Moines in 1988. Apart from travel, Nancy loved the live theater, and family activities including hiking, skiing, golf and boating. Nancy’s beautiful smile and outgoing personality earned her friends all over the world – she will be sorely missed.
For the last three and a half years Nancy was a resident at Somerby Memory Care Facility in Santa Rosa Beach. The family is so grateful for the loving care provided by the nurses and staff at Somerby and Emerald Coast Hospice. A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held at Somerby, 164 West Hewett Road, Santa Rosa Beach from 2:30 to 4:00 on Saturday, February 9th for all friends and family.
I’d like the memory of me
To be a happy one.
I’d like to leave an afterglow
of smiles when life is done.
