Muriel Robson Destin, 90, of Destin, Florida passed away peacefully November 20, 2019 at her home on Calhoun Ave. surrounded by her loving family. She was born April 30, 1929 in Newark, New Jersey to the late George and Amanda Robson.
As a teenager, Muriel moved with her family to Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, and graduated from Pensacola High School, class of 1948. After graduation, she worked at the Maison Blanche department store in New Orleans. She later Returned to Santa Rosa Beach, Florida to work in her family’s restaurant. Muriel met her husband Dewey at a masquerade ball in Hog Town Bayou. Marrying in 1952, she and her dog Venus moved to Destin. Muriel was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Destin, teaching Sunday school, singing in the choir and becoming a deacon. She worked in the family’s fishing business, Destin Bait Company, for many years, rising before daylight with a smile upon her face to sell cigar minnows to boat captains and deckhands.
Muriel is preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Dewey “Buck” Destin; her sister, Loretta Pate and brother, Eugene Robson. She is survived by her sweetheart of 28 years, James Lively; her daughter, Nina Destin; and her son, Dewey Edward Destin (Rebecca); grandchildren, Arin DeBerry (Chris), Michael Fitzgerald, Parker Destin (Tarra), Cameron Ayres (Drew), Grant Destin (Mackenzie), and Drew Destin; great-grandchildren, Clare DeBerry, Ella DeBerry, Rylee Fitzgerald, Greyson Fitzgerald and Wyatt Destin; nieces and nephews, Harold Destin, Susan Destin, Brenda Johnson, Amanda Brady and Patricia Lewis.
A time of Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 24, 2019 from 3pm to 5pm at Davis-Watkins Funeral Home, 113 Racetrack Road, Fort Walton Beach, Florida. Funeral Services will begin at 11am on Monday, November 25, 2019 at First Presbyterian Church, 154 Calhoun Ave., Destin, FL.
