Mary Josephine Monette, age 83, of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2019 in Pensacola, Florida. She was born October 11, 1935 in Mannington, West Virginia, the daughter of Cecil and Margaret Sloan. Before moving to DeFuniak from Ft. Walton Beach in 1992, she worked with the Harris Corporation for 15 years. All her children were in agreement that their Mom was an excellent cook. She loved cats and never turned away a stray. Mary liked to watch Tiger Woods played golf on T.V. and play board games, with “Aggravation” being her favorite.
She is preceded in death by her parents; one infant son, David; one brother, Cecil Sloan; and one sister, Rose Weiner.
Mary is survived by her husband, Ronald A. Monette; eight children, Jack L. Freeman, Jr. and wife Judy, Sheila M. Bennett, Mary M. Mesiner and husband Todd, William “Bill” R. Freeman, Elizabeth R. Hulett, John H. Freeman, Joseph L. Freeman, and Richard A. Freeman; fourteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; three step-daughters, Lisa Monette/Herring and husband Robert, Nadine Monette, and Teresa Monette/Reaves; and one sister-in-law, Jean Sloan.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 15, 2019, beginning at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Davis-Watkins Funeral Home, 1474 Highway 83 North, DeFuniak Springs, FL 32433, with Minister Joel Davis officiating. A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Committal services will follow in Cluster Springs Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mary’s five sons and one grandson.
