Lonnie Curtis Culwell, Jr.

Lonnie Curtis Culwell Jr, born May 24, 1935 in Mobile, Alabama passed away on May 30, 2018. Curtis is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Waynnette Willingham Culwell. He is survived by a son, Lonnie Curtis Culwell III, daughter Lynne Culwell Broach; grandson, Cory Jason Culwell and granddaughters Conner Caroline Broach and Emma Grace Broach; sisters, Beverly (Cookie) Watson and Debbie Tallant and lifelong friend Myriam Baggett.

Curtis attended Repton High School and finished in the United States Navy where he served as a sonar technician on a destroyer during the Korean War. After leaving the Navy he returned to Alabama and attended Auburn University where he met Waynette, his wife of 55 years. He graduated in Electrical Engineering from Auburn and did postgraduate studies at North Carolina State.  He was a pioneer in the evolution of the computer industry, recognizing many game changing technologies which he introduced to companies that have made them main stream today.      

He and his wife Waynnette resided in Huntsville, Alabama until moving to Destin, Florida so he could pursue his love of fishing. Curtis was an avid fisherman, an excellent artist, a very competitive tennis player and loved his family unselfishly. He was a man of deep faith and attended Destin United Methodist Church and Faith Assembly Church.  He loved to travel and loved living on the beach with his beautiful view of the Destin Pass and the Gulf.

A memorial service is planned for Sunday, June 3, 2018 at the Destin United Methodist Church, Destin, FL at 2:00 p.m. with visitation starting at 1:30 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Emerald Coast Hospice.
