Joseph Stephens McCollum, Sr.

Joseph Stephens McCollum Sr., age 81, passed away on Tuesday, December 25, 2018 in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.

He was born on October 5, 1937, to the late William Arthur McCollum and Audrey Brogley.  He graduated from Murphy High School in Mobile, Alabama and Auburn University in 1963 with a degree in Electrical Engineering.  Joe had a long and distinguished career in government service, culminating with his retirement from the Department of the Air Force.

Joe is survived by his wife of 60 years, Anna; sons, Joseph Jr. (Karen) and Eric (Carolyn); sisters in law, Virginia McCollum and Olen McCollum; seven grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Joe’s family would like to express particular appreciation to Barbara and A.C. Williamson, Helen Halkais, “The Church Ladies”, Synergy Homecare and Emerald Coast Hospice.

Visitation will be at Davis Watkins Funeral Home in Fort Walton Beach, Florida from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, January 6, 2018. Services will be held to honor Joe’s life at St. Mary Catholic Church, Ft. Walton Beach, Florida  at 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 7, 2018.  Burial will follow at a later date in Mobile, Alabama.
