Jacob Edward “Ed” Nelson, age 71, of Westville, Florida passed away Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at his residence. He was born June 24, 1948 at Lakeside Hospital in DeFuniak Springs, Florida to Jacob Henry and Hazel Moore Nelson. Ed was employed with Walton County Road Department and later began working in mosquito control until retirement, but his true passion was farming the land and being around all the farm animals. Recently, the deepest desire of his heart was to visit the people of his community and witness to them about the love of Jesus. Every Saturday, Ed and the Pastor of Cedar Springs Church, Tony McCullough, would check on the sick and invite people to attend church. Although he often attended the church close to his home, he would also attend Sandy Creek Baptist Church where he was a member. Ed had ingrained in his sons a strong work ethic and he was so proud of them.
He is preceded in death by both parents, wife of 43 years, JoAnn Carnley Nelson, and brother, Cody Nelson.
Ed is survived by four sons, Jacob Nelson and wife Teresa, Keith Nelson, Joey Nelson and wife Tiffany, and Eddie Nelson and wife Jennifer; seventeen grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister, Wanda Hair and husband Steve; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and special friend, Patricia Scott.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 4, 2019 beginning at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Davis-Watkins Funeral Home, 1474 Highway 83 North, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32433. A time of visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. Reverend Tony McCullough and Reverend Wilbur Williams will be officiating.
