Jack Barr Sr. Obituary

Jack A. Barr Sr. was called home on June 12th after being diagnosed with a terminal lung disease. He was born on May 17, 1935 in Lancaster Pa. to the late Alvin and Dorothea Barr. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers Artie Barr, Richard Barr, Paul Barr and his daughter Carol Armstrong.

He is survived by his wife of over 50 years Florence D. Barr and his children. Brother Dale Barr. Daughters Lynda Holmes (Michael), and Terry Berberick (Tim). Sons Jack Barr Jr., Craig Barr, Mike Barr (Wrendy) and Stephen Barr (Cindy). Granddaughter Alissa Parnell (Josh) whom they raised and who later became his caregiver.
He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Throughout the course of his lifetime he served our country in the Marine Corps and the United States Air Force. After retiring he decided to hit the road driving a semi-tractor trailer for A&A Transfer and Storage company. When it was time to hand over the rig, he became a correctional officer and a security guard.

He loved his family and life. Although his middle name is Avery, he would be quick to tell you it stood for adorable and that he was. Had a humor about him that could make you smile even on your worst day. He accepted his diagnosis the only way he knew how to and began preparing himself and his family for the end. He continued to do as much as he could for himself and all of us until he knew it was time to slow down.

A special thank you to his Vitas hospice nurses Jen and Chad for the care they provided him and the rest of the hospice group for being there for us.

A private family graveside service will be held at Barrancas Cemetery in Pensacola, Fl in June 24th at 10:30 a.m.
